Worship On The
Altar
Worship is a very interesting topic
to research. We can find many different occasions in the Bible that give us a
clear meaning of this incredible subject. One of my favorite examples is the
story of Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac.
God told Abraham to take his only son, Isaac, and offer him for a burnt
offering. The Bible tells us in Genesis chapter 22 that Abraham was obedient
and rose early in the morning to go to the place of which God had told him to
offer Isaac. When they arrived at the mountain, Abraham instructed the young
men, that were with them, to stay while he and Isaac went to worship. Imagine the agony that Abraham was
going through while taking each step closer to the place where he was going to
kill his son. As they climbed the mountain Isaac asked his father “Where is the
lamb for a burnt offering?” - how this simple question must have been so painful
to Abraham; however, God told Abraham to do this thing and he would obey. When
they arrived at the place that the sacrifice was to happen at; Abraham built an
altar, laid the wood in place, and bound Isaac, his only son! When he laid
Isaac on the altar, he took a knife in his hand and stretched it high to slay
his son…
We know that an angel of the Lord stopped Abraham and God provided a ram
for the burnt offering, but the question is, “What if God called you to worship
by offering yourself?” What if God called you by name and said “Build an altar
and sacrifice yourself unto Me for worship”? Would you be like Abraham and
obey? Would you build an altar, crawl on it, and say “Here I am God, take me!”
even while the flesh is in agony and dying? Worship is not always easy, but the
fire of the Holy Ghost that consumes you makes it a wonderful experience. “I
challenge you to crawl on the altar and sacrifice yourself for worship unto
God!”
